Llandyssil - Home of Dragonfest

The Llandyssil Dragons roared to success at Dragonfest '09, and after a well deserved 'rest' they are leaving their lairs, to grace, enhance, entertain and terrify the world once again in 2010 on Saturday September 11th in 'Llandyssil - Home of DRAGONFEST'

‘Dragonfest’ was born in Llandyssil, Powys, Wales in 2008 and stars the now renowned Llandyssil Dragons. Dragonfest promotes our national heraldic emblem, the Dragon of Wales. It also brings together, in a fundraising event, this village, the district and parish of Llandyssil, with many local friends and villages from around Wales and across many borders –including England - for a ‘Fun Filled Day’ here in beautiful, rural mid-Wales.

‘Dragonfest’ is fast becoming an 'International day' of family fun, of live music and dance, of field games at the funny and clever Dragonfest Olympics and the very serious 'sporty' rivalry from local village teams in honour of this years' world cup,  'Wellinton World Cup Penalty Shoot Out'.  Visitors now come from as far afield as New Zealand, Ireland, Scotland south-east of England, as well as from all over Wales.  Do come to visit the numerous stalls of ‘Bric A Brac’, Gifts and Collectables, Books, and Bottles, local Welsh produce, cakes, meats and sausaes, or enjoy drooling over locally made Ice Cream. Other stalls and attractions include a real steam train, ‘The Pillory, ’Bouncy Castle, jewellry and craft stalls, and many others. Try winning the ‘Dragonfest Hunt’ , amble around the local easy Village Dragon Walks – if you dare!

Enjoy great food and a drink - a ‘Dragon Roast' - Vegetarians, why not try our 'alternatives'?  Buy scrumptious homemade cakes, all manner of refreshments. Drink them from your very own ‘Dragonfest mug’. Buy yourself a ‘Dragonfest Polo or Tee-shirt’, enhance it with your ‘Dragonfest Badge, Tea Towels, Bag, Hats, Posters – more unique items like Llany-bears which have already become 'collectables'.

Look out for Dragons of ALL kinds EVERYWHERE. This year's 'Dragon masters were exceedingly imaginative.  Attend The Oscars the new format village duck races - why not hire a Duck?. Try your luck at the games like Dragonheart, The Hafren Hoop-la, Dragon's Teeth, Snack-a-Drag, Dragon's Try, or a £100 'prize' Raffle amongst them. Sing the first two lines of 'Puff the Magic Dragon' to find a 'Singing Dragon and win real money to spend at Dragonfest.  Why not come dressed as a Dragon to win a prize? All ages are welcomed. A colourful  enthusiastic Parade will process at 12.30 from the pub. In only two years, Dragonfest has doubled its 'shools interest'  with six schools included this year - is your school in it yet? Free entry and Free Parking so any donation, however small, is always welcomed as you are too.

2010 Winners: Will be announced on this site and on village noticeboards soon after Dragonfest.

Enjoy our Village, listen to ‘live’music, or watch the Line & disco Dancers, or a Tai Chi demonstration. Laugh at the Raw Leek(or Onion) Eating Competition and cheer along at that Wellington world Cup Penalty Shoot Out, plus lots more here in 'LLANDYSSIL- Home of Dragonfest.'
